Vézac is a French municipality with 587 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the arrondissement of Sarlat-la-Canéda and the canton of Sarlat-la-Canéda .
geography
The municipality of Vézac is located on the Dordogne in the Périgord Noir countryside , about ten kilometers southwest of Sarlat-la-Canéda and about 70 kilometers southeast of Périgueux and 60 kilometers southwest of Brive-la-Gaillarde .
The municipality extends from the right bank of the Dordogne at 63 m above sea level, which describes a river loop that extends south, across the side valley of the Ruisseau de Pontou to the northeast. In the north and east, the municipality is characterized by forests, interrupted by numerous clearing islands and individual farms. The highest point is reached at 243 m above sea level in the east on the border with the municipality of Vitrac .
Vézac does not have a grown village center, instead it consists of several loosely connected settlements. The districts named include La Grange de Vergne, Le Luc, Beau Repos, La Fournerie, Rochegourbe, Mège and Lestevinie .
In the south of the municipal area, the intensely agriculturally used flat floodplain of the Dordogne extends. It is traversed by some oxbow lakes. From the northwest, a wooded, prominent terrain spur protrudes into the floodplain, which it exceeds by more than 100 meters. At the end of this spur are the gardens of Marqueyssac with the castle of the same name. Opposite the southernmost point of the municipality, the Céou flows into the Dordogne.

Attractions
A visitor magnet in Vézac are the gardens of Marqueyssac with the Marqueyssac Castle, which is classified as a monument historique . The objects listed as Monument historique also include the church of St Urban ( Saint-Urbain ) and the Grotte du Roc , a rock cave with paintings from the Upper Paleolithic .
At the western end of the neighboring village of La Roque-Gageac is the small La Malartrie castle , which was built in the 19th century in the historicism style. It is an expression of a spiritual movement that fostered a return to the beauties and values of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance . The castle was built exactly in the style of the 15th to 16th centuries.
Transport links
Vézac is located on the main road from Bergerac via Le Buisson-de-Cadouin and Sarlat-la-Canéda to Souillac with a connection to the A20 autoroute, which mainly follows the Dordogne Valley . Passenger trains on the railway line from Siorac-en-Périgord to Sarlat-la-Canéda through the municipality do not stop in Vézac.
