In the 19th century the place had mostly between 550 and 700 inhabitants. The phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the loss of jobs due to the mechanization of agriculture have since led to a significant decline in population, which, however, has turned into significant growth again since the 1960s due to the increasing tourism in the region.
economy
Up to the present day agriculture plays the biggest role in the economic life of the community: The viticulture that was formerly also practiced here was, however, completely abandoned after the phylloxera crisis; Tobacco and corn are also on the decline - instead fields, but also walnuts , chestnuts and fruit trees dominate the region. Some vacant houses are rented out as holiday apartments ( gîtes ).
history
Small prehistoric finds have been made in the municipality that testify to the presence of early man. The first mention of the place under the name Aubas comes from the 14th century.
