Terrasson-Lavilledieu is a French municipality with 6202 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .

geography

Terrasson-Lavilledieu is about 150 kilometers east of Bordeaux . The Vézère flows through the village .

history

With the twelve enigmatic Cluzeaux , the ancient city offers a unique wealth. The place goes back to the foundation of a monastery in the 6th century. In the 12th century, Benedictine monks built a stone bridge over the Vézère. The bridge was repaired several times and has survived the centuries. Today it is the landmark of Terrasson-Lavilledieu.

The old bridge

After the merger of the former municipalities of La Villedieu and Terrasson in 1963, the municipality was named Terrasson-la-Villedieu . This was changed to Terrasson-Lavilledieu by decree of December 22, 1997 .
