Castels et Bézenac is a commune with 809 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the north of the department Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Sarlat-la-Canéda and the canton of Vallée Dordogne .
Castels et Bézenac was formed as Commune nouvelle on January 1, 2017 from the previously independent municipalities of Castels and Bézenac .
geography
Castels et Bézenac is about 50 kilometers east of Bergerac on the Dordogne , which borders the municipality in the south. Castels et Bézenac is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Meyrals in the north, Saint-André-d'Allas in the north and northeast, Beynac-et-Cazenac in the east, Saint-Vincent-de-Cosse in the southeast, Allas-les-Mines in the south, Berbiguières to the south and southwest and Saint-Cyprien to the west.

Castels
- The Église Saint-Clair du Vieux-Castel is a single-nave Romanesque building from the 13th century. It stands in the middle of the old cemetery, which is still in use, although the old village has long since disappeared. The externally unadorned building has a crossing tower and an archivolt portal that protrudes slightly from the wall on the north side. The interior of the apse , which is polygonal on the outside , has a blind arcade decoration and some late Romanesque capitals. The church building was recognized as a monument historique in 1965 .
