La Roche-Chalais is the westernmost municipality in the Dordogne department. It borders the Gironde (south) and Charente-Maritime (west) departments and lies on the Dronne River . La Roche-Chalais is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Parcoul-Chenaud in the north, Saint Aulaye-Puymangou in the north and north-east, Servanches in the east, Eygurande-et-Gardedeuil and Saint-Antoine-sur-l'Isle in the south-east, Saint-Christophe- de-Double in the south, Les Églisottes-et-Chalaures in the south-west, La Barde in the west and south-west and Saint-Aigulin in the north-west.
