Chancelade ( Occitan : Chancelada ) is a French municipality with 4262 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Périgueux and the canton of Coulounieix-Chamiers . The inhabitants are called Chanceladais .
geography
Chancelade is located on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, the Via Lemovicensis , one of the four historic " routes of the pilgrims in France ". The municipality is traversed by the Beauronne, which flows a little further south into the Isle , which also represents the southwestern municipality boundary. Chancelade is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Château-l'Évêque in the northeast, Périgueux in the southeast, Marsac-sur-l'Isle in the south, Annesse-et-Beaulieu in the southwest and La Chapelle-Gonaguet in the northwest.

Notre-Dame de Chancelade Abbey , founded in the 12th century, destroyed by the Protestants in the 16th century and later rebuilt. Other sacred buildings belong to the area of the abbey:
