economy
The community is traditionally oriented towards agriculture and forestry; the residents lived on a self-sufficient basis for centuries . Today the rental of holiday homes ( gîtes ) plays an important role in the income of the municipality.
history
Little is known about the medieval and early modern history of the formerly independent towns of Bouteilles and Saint-Sébastien ; they merged into one church in 1825.
Attractions
- Of the originally Romanesque church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens , only the apse and the crossing tower remain ; the nave was renewed in the 19th century. Possibly in the context of the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) the apse was structurally increased so that it forms a unit with the crossing tower - this created a windowless, but easy to defend space, which is divided on the outside by blind arcades . The nave has a flat roof; the apse, which is significantly lower in the interior, shows the usual dome vaulting . The Romanesque components of the church have been recognized as Monument historique since 1948 .
- Surroundings
- The Château de la Richardie ( 45 ° 21 ′ 15 ″ N , 0 ° 18 ′ 32 ″ E ), located approx. 1 km northeast of the town of Bouteilles and appears to be rather strict, is built in the classicist Baroque style and dates from the 18th century. It is privately owned.
