Saint-Martial-Viveyrol is a French municipality with 195 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Périgueux and the canton of Ribérac (until 2015: canton Distriblac ).

The name in the Occitan language is Sent Marçau de Vivairòus and is derived from the holy martial of Limoges . The part of the name "Vivairòus" means "fish pond", but also indicates the location of the center of the municipality in a swampy area.

The inhabitants are called Saint Martialais Viveyrolis .

Saint-Martial-Viveyrol is located about 35 km northwest of Périgueux in the Ribéracois area of the historic province of Périgord on the western edge of the department.

Maurice de Gandillac , born on February 14, 1906 in Koléa , Algeria , died on April 20, 2006 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , Hauts-de-Seine department , was a French philosopher whose family comes from the municipality. In the 1930s he signed his articles in the German weekly magazine Sept with “Martial Viveyrol” as a token of appreciation.
