Saint-Martin-des-Combes is a French municipality with 186 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Périgueux (until 2016: Bergerac ) and the canton of Périgord Central (until 2015: Canton of Villamblard ).
The name in the Occitan language is Sent Martin dei Combas and is derived from Saint Martin of Tours . The Occitan "Combas" means "gorges" or "valleys".
The inhabitants are called Martinet Combois .

Saint-Martin-des-Combes is located about 27 km southwest of Périgueux and about 16 km northeast of Bergerac in its catchment area ( Aire urbaine ) in the Landais area of the historic province of Périgord .

The Caudeau , a right tributary of the Dordogne, crosses the territory of the commune together with its tributaries that arise in Saint-Martin-des-Combes

Population development
After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 625 in the middle of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to around 130 inhabitants with short recovery phases until the 1970s, before a phase of moderate growth set in. Since the turn of the millennium, the size of the community has stabilized at a level of around 190 inhabitants.
