The (total) population of the municipality of Sorges et Ligueux en Périgord was determined by adding up the municipalities that were independent until the end of 2015.

The continuous decline in population in the two former municipalities in the 20th century is mainly due to the phylloxera crisis in viticulture as well as the mechanization of agriculture and the closure of small farms.

economy

The community is still largely characterized by agriculture, with viticulture , which was important in earlier times, only playing a minor role. Small traders, craftsmen and service providers have settled in the larger towns. Sorges is known in France for the numerous truffles found in the area and its truffle museum.

history

Sorges was on the pilgrimage route ( Via Lemovicensis ) to Santiago de Compostela ; in Ligueux there was an important medieval abbey .
