The name in the Occitan language is Sent Pau de Lisona and is derived from St. Paul .

The inhabitants are called Saint-Paul-Lizonnois and Saint-Paul-Lizonnoises .

Saint-Paul-Lizonne is located about 40 km northwest of Périgueux in the Ribéracois area of the historic province of Périgord on the western border with the neighboring Charente department .
