Saint-Hilaire-d'Estissac is a French commune of 112 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Périgueux (until 2016: Bergerac ) and the canton of Périgord Central (until 2015: Canton of Villamblard ).
The name in the Occitan language is Sent Alari d'Estiçac and is derived from St. Hilary of Poitiers . The addition "Estissac" probably comes from an estate that belonged to an "Asticius" in Gallo-Roman times .
The inhabitants are called Saint-Hilairois and Saint-Hilairoises .

Saint-Hilaire-d'Estissac is located about 25 km southwest of Périgueux and about 20 km north of Bergerac in the Landais area of the historic province of Périgord .

The Crempse , a tributary of the Isle , crosses the area of the parish along with its tributaries, the Roy and the Estissac.

The coat of arms can be interpreted as follows: The coat of arms in the heraldic top right corner reminds of the parish belonging to the former Estissac castellan . The green background indicates the Landais forest , in whose territory the municipality is located. The figure shows St. Hilary, bishop of Poitiers and patron saint against snakebite. For this reason, snakes are shown on both sides.
Population development
After the beginning of the records, the population rose in the middle of the 19th century to a high of around 425. In the following period the size of the community decreased with short recovery phases up to the 1980s to around 85 inhabitants, before it reached a level of around 110 inhabitants, which is still maintained today.
