Saint-Paul-de-Serre is a French municipality with 280 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Périgueux and the canton of Périgord Central (until 2015: canton of Vergt ).

The name in the Occitan language is Sent Pau de Serra and is derived from St. Paul . The addition "Serre" goes back to the ancient Celtic word ser , which gave its name to the Serre river, which flows through the area of ​​the municipality.

The inhabitants are called Saint-Paulois and Saint-Pauloises .

Saint-Paul-de-Serre is located approx. 15 km southwest of Périgueux in its catchment area ( Aire urbaine ) and approx. 30 km northeast of Bergerac in the Périgord central area of the historic province of Périgord .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 590 in the middle of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to 155 inhabitants with brief recovery phases until the 1980s, before a phase of moderate growth set in continues to this day.
