Saint-Jean-d'Estissac is a French municipality with 177 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Périgueux (until 2016: Bergerac ) and the canton of Périgord Central (until 2015: Canton of Villamblard ).

The name in the Occitan language is Sent Joan d'Estiçac and is derived from John the Baptist . The addition "Estissac" probably comes from an estate that belonged to an "Asticius" in Gallo-Roman times .

The inhabitants are called Estissacois and Estissacoises .

Saint-Jean-d'Estissac is located about 25 km southwest of Périgueux and about 20 km north of Bergerac in the Landais area of the historic province of Périgord .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 585 in the middle of the 19th century.
