Vendoire ( Occitan Vendeira ) is a southwestern French city and a municipality (commune) with 134 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) to the west of the department Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The community consists of the main town and several hamlets (hameaux) and individual farmsteads (fermes) .
Location and climate
The place Vendoire is located in the old cultural landscape of the Périgord a good 50 km (driving distance) northwest of Périgueux or a good 22 km north of Ribérac at an altitude of approx. 125 m . The climate is temperate; Rain (approx. 900 mm / year) falls over the year.

The continuous decline in population since the second half of the 19th century is mainly due to the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the mechanization of agriculture ; In addition, there is the ongoing closure of small farms.

The community is still largely dominated by agriculture and forestry; Viticulture, which was quite important in earlier times, hardly plays a role anymore. Small traders, craftsmen and service providers have settled in the village. Since the 1960s, some of the vacant houses have been rented out as holiday apartments ( gîtes ) .
history
The local parish church dates from the 12th century; from the 13./14. The place names Venduira , Vendueyra and Vendoyra have been handed down from the 19th century .
Attractions
- The local castle, also called Château de Bourzac , is located near an early medieval fortress hill ( motte ) in the center (bourg) . The two-storey building consists of a central residential wing (logis) and two risalit-like protruding side wings with a mansard roof and baroque portico windows . A magnificent stone coat of arms is emblazoned above the simple portals on both sides of the central wing. The privately owned building has been recognized as a Monument historique since 2000 .
- The single-nave Romanesque Église Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption dates from the 12th century. The west facade is designed according to the Charentesian model according to a triumphal arch scheme, with the two outer arches being closed; the central portal is downgraded several times. Church construction has been recognized as a monument historique since 1948 .
