Montmoreau is a French commune with 2,575 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Charente in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement Angoulême , the canton Tude-et-Lavalette and the municipality association Lavalette Tude Dronne, founded in 2017 .
On January 1, 2017, Montmoreau was formed from the previously independent municipalities of Aignes-et-Puypéroux , Montmoreau-Saint-Cybard , Saint-Amant-de-Montmoreau , Saint-Eutrope and Saint-Laurent-de-Belzagot . The administrative headquarters are in Montmoreau-Saint-Cybard.
geography
Montmoreau is in the south of the historic Angoumois province , about 22 kilometers south of Angoulême . Montmoreau is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Chadurie and Boisné-La Tude in the north, Gurat in the northeast, Vaux-Lavalette and Salles-Lavalette in the east, Juignac and Bors (Canton de Tude-et-Lavalette) in the south, Montboyer and Saint-Martial in the South-west, Courgeac in the west and south-west, Nonac in the west and Pérignac in the north-west.
