Bonnes ( Occitan : Bona ) is a municipality and a town with 406 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the western French department of Charente in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .

The place Bonnes lies on the river Dronne in the cultural landscape of the Angoumois at an altitude of about 50 m above sea level. d. M. and is about 52 km (driving distance) south from the city of Angoulême and approx. 75 km south-east from the city of Cognac .

The population decline in the late 19th and first half of the 20th century is mainly due to the loss of jobs as a result of the phylloxera crisis and the increasing mechanization of agriculture .
economy
While the residents of the village lived for centuries on the yields of their fields and gardens, viticulture was promoted in the late Middle Ages and early modern times , which was discontinued after the phylloxera crisis in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In contrast, tourism in the form of renting out holiday homes ( gîtes ) plays a not insignificant role in the economic survival of the municipality.
history
The place on a branch of the Way of St. James ( Via Turonensis ) belonged in the Middle Ages to the manorial rule ( seigneurie ) of Aubeterre .
Attractions
- The parish church of Saint-Pierre et Sainte-Radegonde dates back to the 13th century; In the 16th century the portal was redesigned in the late Gothic style, and the bell tower and two side chapels were added, which look like a transept . The present vestibule with its wooden supports seems to be a work of the 18th or 19th century. The single-nave church has been recognized as a monument historique since 1995 .
