Saint-Yrieix-sur-Charente is a commune with 7274 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Charente in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Angoulême and the canton of Gond-Pontouvre and is a member of the communauté d'agglomération du Grand Angoulême . The residents call themselves Arédiens or Arédiennes .
geography
The municipality is located in the agglomeration northwest of Angoulême and is around four kilometers from the center. It is bordered by Balzac to the north, Gond-Pontouvre to the east, Fléac to the west and Vindelle to the northwest . Saint-Yrieix-sur-Charente lies in a bend in the river on the right bank of the Charente River , which forms the municipal boundary to the north, east and south. The "Grande Prairie" leisure center with a swimming lake is located on the river in the east of the municipality.
The municipality is cut by the traffic belts of the national roads N10 and N1141.
