Brie-sous-Chalais is a French municipality with 154 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Charente in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement Angoulême , the canton Tude-et-Lavalette and the municipality association Lavalette Tude Dronne, founded in 2017 .

Brie-sous-Chalais is located in the south of the historic province of Angoumois , about 38 kilometers south-southwest of Angoulême . Brie-sous-Chalais is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Châtignac in the north and north-west, Saint-Laurent-des-Combes in the north and north-east, Montboyer in the east, Curac in the south, Bardenac in the south and south-west and Brossac in the west.

history

Between 1973 and 1993 the municipalities of Brie-sous-Chalais and Bardenac were merged. The then existing community was called Brie-Bardenac .
