In the first half of the 19th century the community had a constant population of around 300; As a result of the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the mechanization of agriculture , the number of inhabitants then fell continuously to the current lows.
economy
For centuries, the inhabitants of the community lived on agriculture as self-sufficient; Nowadays, the soils of the municipality belong to the Bons Bois of the Cognac wine-growing region , but sales of expensive brandies as well as wine have tended to decline in recent decades, so that viticulture no longer plays an important role in the region. Income from tourism, especially the rental of holiday homes ( gîtes ), has been added as a source of income since the 1960s.
Attractions
The small parish church of Sainte-Blaise - with the exception of the facade largely made of quarry stone - is a simple Romanesque building from the 12th century with an unusual facade design: the unadorned central portal is elevated by a triangular gable that rests on two consoles ; to the side of it there are two tall, slender blind arcades . A console frieze - only partially preserved - runs above the portal zone . The belfry integrated into the gable seems to be an addition of the 18th century. The nave is lit only through two windows on the south side and covered by an open roof structure .
