Claix is a western French municipality with 1029 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Charente in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .

In 1533 the reformer Jean Calvin stayed for a long time in the house of the parish priest of Claix. This is where the idea for his later published work Institutio Christianae Religionis ("Instruction in the Christian religion") arose .

- The Romanesque parish church of Saint-Christophe is a 12th-century building that impresses above all with its almost castle-like crossing tower . The slit-like windows and the largely unadorned western facade also contribute to the defensive overall impression of the church. Only the apse has slightly larger windows, which are emphasized on the outside by inserted columns; A figural console frieze runs beneath the eaves .
