Montboyer is located in the south of the historic Angoumois Province , about 40 kilometers south-southwest of Angoulême . Montboyer is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Martial in the north and north-west, Montmoreau in the north-east, Bors (Canton de Tude-et-Lavalette) in the east and north-east, Bellon in the east, Courlac in the south-east, Orival and Chalais in the south, Curac in the south-west , Brie-sous-Chalais to the west and south-west and Saint-Laurent-des-Combes to the west and north-west.
