In the 19th century the population of the community rose from about 900 to over 1400 at times; the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the mechanization of agriculture led to a population decline to around 1200 in the first half of the 20th century. The proximity to the greater Angoulême area and the comparatively low real estate prices have resulted in a renewed increase in the population in recent decades.
economy
For centuries, the inhabitants of the community lived from agriculture; In the early modern period, several water-powered grain , oil and paper mills were added. The soils of the commune belong to the fins bois of the Cognac wine-growing region , but hardly any wine is grown in the densely populated region around Angoulême.
history
