The aperture (from MHG. Dazzle "blind" and MHD. Blind "dress", "camouflage" in a figurative sense) is Building a device that primarily serves the wall panel and the elements of the simulated architecture belongs.

Use and description

Dazzle served in the castle - and fortress of camouflage . In general, they were and are used as wall decorations or to structure smooth wall surfaces.

Façade of the church of Echillais , Charente , with side blind portals on the ground floor and a row of blind arcades on the upper level

Features of the panel are the pretense of a non-existent component and the lack of the corresponding static function. It is usually presented to the load-bearing or supporting element and hides it in whole or in part, but can also be placed on a part of the building, such as the facing gable . This is a simulated gable on the eaves , which has no reference to the shape or slope of the roof. In the strict sense, the eyelash is also a blind gable.

Further forms of the screen are the screen column and the pilaster , which are applied to a facade. The blind arch simulates an opening. A series of such arches is called a blind arcade . Flat wall or wall niches that exist within the arches are called blind niches .

In addition, there are blind portals ( glare portal ) and windows that simulate an opening ( glare window , blind window ).

Triforiums , which do not form a walkway in the wall, but only consist of blind arcades, are called blind triforiums .

Blind tracery refers to tracery that is not open, but applied to a part of the wall.

Special forms

A glare facade is the cladding of an existing facade with a completely new facade, which usually extends beyond the dimensions of the original elements in the upper and side areas. An example of this is the backdrop and bounds ahead of the original facade of the former Palais Bourbon set in Paris portico .
