Via Turonensis
The Via Turonensis is the northernmost Way of St. James through France . It got its name because it runs through the city of Tours . According to the pilgrim guide in the Liber Sancti Jacobi from the middle of the 12th century, the Via Turonensis begins in Orléans , but today Paris is considered the starting point.
Overall, this pilgrim guide names four such starting points: In addition to Orléans, there were Vézelay , Le Puy-en-Velay and Arles . In 1998, UNESCO named these “ Paths of the Pilgrims to St. James in France ” a World Heritage Site .
The three northern ways combine in Ostabat into a single way. The route from Arles only meets the main stream in Puente la Reina , in Spain.
course
The meeting point for the pilgrimage is in Paris in the Quartier du Châtelet, at the Saint-Jacques tower . It then leads over rue Saint-Jacques to the parish church of Saint-Jacques-du-Haut-Pas , where the city was formerly abandoned.
