Lusignan is a French village with 2,649 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Poitiers and the canton of Lusignan . The place is around 25 km southwest of Poitiers , on the banks of the Vonne River . The inhabitants of Lusignan are called Mélusins or Mélusines .

Attractions
- The Château de Lusignan , the largest medieval fortress of France is only as ruins preserved.
- The Romanesque church Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Junien was essentially built between 1024 and 1110 and supplemented by a southern porch in the 15th century .

Lusignan has been linked through community partnerships since 1976 with the German community Altusried in the Bavarian Allgäu and since 1997 with Pano Lefkara in Cyprus , about 40 km southwest of Nicosia . Lusignan has a special relationship with Cyprus as the first ruler of the Kingdom of Cyprus was Guido of Lusignan . He had been king of Jerusalem and bought the island in 1192 from Richard the Lionheart , who had conquered the island on the 3rd Crusade .
There are friendly relationships with the French community of L'Hôpital . The residents of this municipality, which lies directly on the border with Germany, were evacuated to Lusignan at the beginning of the Second World War .
