Avanton is a French village with 2,175 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Poitiers and the canton of Migné-Auxances (until 2015: canton of Neuville-de-Poitou ). The inhabitants are called Avantonnais .

geography

Avanton is about nine kilometers north-northwest of Poitiers . Avanton is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vendeuvre-du-Poitou in the north, Jaunay-Clan in the northeast, Chasseneuil-du-Poitou in the east and southeast, Migné-Auxances in the south, Cissé in the west and Neuville-de-Poitou in the north-west.

The former Route nationale 757 runs through the municipality .

history

In 1844, Avanton's sheet gold cone from the late Bronze Age was found here.
