Iteuil is a French commune in the department of Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . Iteuil belongs to the Arrondissement of Poitiers and is part of the canton of Vivonne . The inhabitants are called Iteuillais (es) .
geography
Iteuil is about ten kilometers south-southwest of Poitiers on the Clain River . Iteuil is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Ligugé in the north and north-west, Smarves in the east and north-east, Roches-Prémarie-Andillé in the east, Aslonnes in the south and south-east, Vivonne in the south and south-west and Marçay in the west and south-west.
Route nationale 10 and the Paris – Bordeaux railway line run through the municipality .
history
Possibly Iteuil 507 was one of the scenes for the Battle of Vouillé between the Franks and Visigoths. Around 954/955 the place is mentioned as Estolium .
