Smarves is about nine kilometers south of Poitiers on the plain between the Clain and Miosson rivers . Smarves is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Benoît in the north, Nouaillé-Maupertuis in the east, Roches-Prémarie-Andillé in the south, Iteuil in the southwest and Ligugé in the west.
