La Villedieu-du-Clain is a French commune in the department of Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It has 1,592 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and belongs to the canton of Vivonne .
geography
La Villedieu-du-Clain is about 15 km south of Poitiers on a plain above the Clain valley. In the east of the village begins the Bois de la Vayolle , a forest area criss-crossed by hiking trails that extends over several square kilometers.

The place is a former commander of the Order of Malta .

Attractions
- The Commanderie Gaillard was built between the 15th and 17th centuries and was later fundamentally modernized. His dovecote is classified as Inscrit Monument Historique .
- The Saint-Jean-Baptiste church is protected as a monument historique . It has been largely reworked in its history. The apse was removed and the nave rebuilt. The portal is Romanesque, the rafter heads and capitals richly decorated. A ledge supported by small arches is attached to the facade . Inside, the holy water font and a reliquary of St. Remigius from the 17th century made of gilded wood are worth seeing.
