Theo Zellner (born February 1, 1949 in Blaibach ; lives in Bad Kötzting ) is a German local politician ( CSU ) and President of the Bavarian Red Cross . Until May 2014 he was President of the Savings Banks Association of Bavaria .

Life and work

Zellner finished his school years in 1968 with the Abitur at the Humanist Gymnasium (later the Robert Schuman Gymnasium ) Cham . This was followed by a degree in business administration and education . From 1971 he was employed as a primary school teacher at a secondary school. He finally gave up this profession in 1989 due to his political activities.

Political career

Zellner's political career began in 1964. He became active at the local and district level (first in the district of Kötzting , then in the district of Cham ) in the Junge Union . In 1978 he was finally elected to the city ​​council of Kötzting and in the same year as district councilor and sports officer in the district council of Cham. In 1982 he finally got the post of CSU chairman in Kötzting and deputy CSU district chairman in the Cham district. Two years later he was appointed second mayor of the city of Kötzting. From 1989 he held the office of First Mayor of Kötzting. In 1990 he was elected deputy district administrator for the Cham district. In 1992 he was still a member of the district assembly of the Upper Palatinate , but only until 2003. On May 1, 1996, he assumed the office of district administrator of the Cham district, which he held until April 14, 2010. On March 2, 2008 , he was confirmed in office with 81.29 percent of the vote. Since September 20, 2000, he has also been President of the Bavarian District Assembly and since November 19, 2003 Vice-President of the German District Assembly . These offices ended in 2010 because he was elected President of the Bavarian Savings Banks Association on February 26, 2010.

Theo Zellner received numerous awards during his political career, including the Citizen Medal of the City of Bad Kötzting in 1996, the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (1999), the Communal Medal of Merit in silver in 2002 and finally the Bavarian Order of Merit in 2005 .
