The Communal Merit Medal (also: Medal for special services to communal self-government ) is an award given annually in Bavaria since 1966 by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior for activities in communal honorary offices , in particular for mandate holders , “for many years of meritorious work in communal self-administration .

It is awarded in the stages of gold, silver or bronze, is not intended to be worn in public and is not a medal or decoration in the sense of the Bavarian constitution . A certificate is issued for the award of the medal and, since 1989, a pin has also been presented.

As the first stage of the award for services in local self-government , the Minister of State of the Interior also awards a certificate of thanks (without medal) for many years of meritorious work.

Proposals about personalities to be honored can be submitted to the district offices (usually to the local authority ).
