Irmgard Müller becomes the GDR javelin champion in 1956

Irmgard Müller (born December 9, 1934 ) is a former athlete from the German Democratic Republic (GDR). From 1953 to 1956 she was one of the best javelin throwers in the GDR.

Irmgard Müller started for BSG Empor Leipzig Lindenau in 1953 and 1954 , and from 1955 she joined the SC Rotation Leipzig . In 1953, at the age of 18, she won the GDR championships with 38.15 m and a lead of over two meters. In 1954 she threw the javelin at the championships to 41.49 m, but was 28 centimeters behind Ingeborg Günther in second place . In 1955, Müller won the title again, with 42.65 m she was over a meter ahead of Günther. Müller won her third and last championship title in 1956 with 44.89 m and eleven centimeters ahead of Günther. In June 1956 Irmgard Müller achieved the best performance of her career when she threw the javelin in Leipzig at 47.27 m, only 16 centimeters shorter than Ingeborg Günther's GDR record. Irmgard Müller took part in six international matches for the GDR from 1953 to 1956.
