Saint-Jacques church

Le Barp ( Gascon : Lo Barp ) is a French city with a population of 5,506 (as at 1st January 2017) in the department of Gironde in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arcachon arrondissement and the canton of Les Landes des Graves . The inhabitants are called Barpais .

geography

Le Barp is located in the south of the department in the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park near the Eyre Valley ( Val d'Eyre ). Its tributary Lacanau crosses the municipality in the north. Le Barp is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Cestas in the north, Saucats in the east and north-east, Saint-Magne in the east and south-east, Belin-Béliet in the south, Salles in the south-west and Mios in the west and north-west.

The former route nationale 10 (today's D1010) runs through the municipality . The A63 autoroute runs along the north-western edge of the municipality .

history

In the 13th century, the infirmary ( Hôpital ) was built by Le Barp on the site where the present church is located.
