La Teste-de-Buch is a French city with 26,078 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Gironde department in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The city has been in the Arcachon arrondissement since January 1, 2007 and is the main town (French: chef-lieu ) of the canton of La Teste-de-Buch .
geography
The city lies on the south bank of the Bassins d'Arcachon . It is divided into Cazaux, Pyla-sur-Mer and La Teste Center.

Flora and fauna
On the Île aux Oiseaux , an island in the center of the Bassin d'Arcachon , herons , curlews and sandpipers can be found every year . The Banc d'Arguin nature reserve belonging to the municipality , a sandbank in the mouth of the Bassin d'Arcachon , is a breeding, resting and wintering area for numerous species of birds.
The largest sand dune in Europe, the Dune du Pilat , around 110 m high, is located in the area belonging to the city and can now also be seen on the city's coat of arms, which previously adorned a seahorse. It was declared a nature reserve in 1978. Since then, the approximately 135 hectares of the dune and the surrounding forest (approx. 4000 hectares) have been protected.
La Teste-de-Buch is an oyster farming center .
traffic
Trains to Bordeaux leave every hour from the train station in La Teste-de-Buch . The journey takes about 50 minutes; in Arcachon is one min in about 10th In Cazaux there is an important military airfield for the Air Force . The free car route A660 ends a few kilometers east in the neighboring town of Gujan-Mestras .
