Lanton is a French town in the department of Gironde in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . While Lanton had 1401 inhabitants in 1962, it currently has 6912 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).

The municipality belongs to the canton of Andernos-les-Bains in the Arcachon arrondissement . In terms of area, the municipality is one of the largest in France. Lanton is made up of the districts of Blagon, Taussat, Cassy and Lanton.

Lanton is located northeast of Arcachon on the opposite bank of the Bassin d'Arcachon . Andernos-les-Bains and Audenge are the neighboring municipalities.
