Le Teich is a French municipality with 7906 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Gironde department in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The city has been in the Arcachon arrondissement since January 1, 2007 and belongs to the canton of Gujan-Mestras .

The municipality is located on the southeast bank of the Bassin d'Arcachon , directly on the mouth of the River Eyre (or Leyre). The area is part of the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park .

Le Teich station is on the Lamothe – Arcachon railway , which is operated by the TER Aquitaine railway company from Bordeaux (line 32). TGV trains from Paris to Arcachon also run on this route .

The A660 autoroute to Arcachon with junction no. 3 Le Teich runs south of the village .

Attractions

The ornithological park of Le Teich
  • The ornithological park of Le Teich has existed for more than 30 years. It offers excellent conditions for visitors and wild animals to meet. The park serves as a resting place for many migratory birds on their migration. The numerous storks in particular always attract many visitors.
  • The mouth delta of the River Eyre is formed by two main and several side arms. It can be visited on a five-kilometer-long riverside path, which allows you to gain insight into the biological richness of the delta.
  • The source of St. John (French: Saint-Jean) is located on the former Way of St. James and dates from the 17th century. The place used to be a cult site, which is probably of Celtic origin. The spring became a stop for pilgrims, and the water was valued for treating skin diseases.

Le Teich has had a partnership with the Spanish municipality of Briones in the La Rioja region since 2007 .
