The river at Mios |
The Eyre (sometimes called Leyre or Grande Leyre ) is a coastal river in France that runs in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region . The name of their lower reaches Eyre corresponds to popular usage. The form Leyre comes from a fusion of the French article with the actual name ( L'Eyre ) through poor grammatical analyzes by earlier geographers.
geography
The river has its source as Grande Leyre in the municipality of Luglon and generally drains in a north-westerly direction. The Petite Leyre flows north of Moustey from the right . From here the river bears the name Eyre (Leyre) and after a total of 116 kilometers it finally flows into the Bassin d'Arcachon , a bay in the Atlantic, at the municipal boundary of Le Teich and Biganos . Its river delta , with an area of around 3000 hectares, forms the ornithological park of Le Teich. The catchment area of the Eyre essentially corresponds to the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park . Their banks are lined with a dense deciduous forest in the lower reaches, which forms an interesting contrast to the maritime pines that are widely planted in the entire area . The river is often used here for canoeing . On its way, the Eyre crosses the Landes and Gironde departments .
