Pissos is a French commune with 1,441 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Landes department in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the arrondissement of Mont-de-Marsan and the canton of Grands Lacs (until 2015: canton of Pissos ). The residents call themselves Pisséens .
geography
Pissos is located about 70 kilometers north-northeast of Dax am Eyre in the vast Landes de Gascogne , the largest forest area in Western Europe, about 80 kilometers south of Bordeaux . Pissos is surrounded by the neighboring communities Moustey in the north, Belhade in the northeast, Sore in the east, Trensacq in the south and southeast, Commensacq in the south, Labouheyre in the southwest, Liposthey in the west and Saugnacq-et-Muret in the northwest.
The Via Turonensis , a variant of the Camino de Santiago , runs through the municipality .

economy
The economy of Pissos was and is u. a. shaped by wood processing. The Pissos sawmill became known throughout France in 1967: This is where most of the sawdust came from that was used by the French Navy on the north coast of Brittany against the oil spill from the Torrey Canyon tanker .
