Maurrin is a French municipality with 442 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of land in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Mont-de-Marsan and the canton of Adour Armagnac (until 2015: canton of Grenade-sur-l'Adour ).

history

There are no traces of the Moors in Maurrin , but there is a neighborhood called “Tarricq”, which means “entrance gate” in Arabic. The son of Odo of Paris , king of western France , is said to have carried out certain activities in Maurrin in the 9th century, in particular to protect against the Normans , who devastated 850 Arjuzanx and 854 Aire-sur-l'Adour .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 570 by the middle of the 19th century. As a result, the size of the community decreased to around 265 inhabitants during brief recovery periods by the 1940s, before a robust growth phase began that in recently stagnated again.

The Church of the Assumption of Mary was built in the 19th century.
