Benquet is a commune with 1,732 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of land in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the arrondissement of Mont-de-Marsan and the canton of Mont-de-Marsan-2 (until 2015: canton of Mont-de-Marsan-Sud ). The inhabitants are called the Benquetois .
geography
Benquet is about six kilometers south of Mont-de-Marsan in the Landes de Gascogne forests . Benquet is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Pierre-du-Mont in the north, Bretagne-de-Marsan in the east, Saint-Maurice-sur-Adour in the south-east, Saint-Sever in the south and south-west, Bas-Mauco in the south-west and Haut- Mauco in the west.
The Camino de Santiago leads through Benquet. The municipality is located in the catchment area of the Adour River . One of its tributaries, the Ruisseau du Bos , also known as the Ruisseau de Saint-Jean in the upper section , crosses the municipality. At the hamlet of Saint Christau , it changes its name to Ruisseau de Saint Christau and is also dammed into a lake.
