The municipality of Miramont-Sensacq is located in the French region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine in the Landes department . The GR 65 long-distance hiking trail , which largely follows the historical route of the French Way of St. James, Via Podiensis , leads through the town, which has 359 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) .
geography
Miramont-Sensacq is located in southwest France in the Pyrenees foothills in the historic area of Tursan . Today Tursan is still important as a wine-growing area . The next town is Pau , which can be reached in a southerly direction via the D11 and the N134 after 38 kilometers of road. The nearest major French cities are Toulouse (142 km) in the east and Bordeaux (140 km) in the north.
The municipality is drained to the north by the Bahus and Grand Bas rivers. The Bahus forms the Retenue de Miramont reservoir here .
history
Miramont was founded as a bastide in 1276 by King Edward I of England . On February 25, 1845 Miramont-Sensacq was merged into one municipality by order of the French King Louis-Philippe I from the two places Sensacq and Miramont. The population fell sharply. While there were 841 inhabitants in 1881, today there are fewer than 400.

Way of St. James ( Via Podiensis )
The place offers two pilgrim hostels (French: Gîte d'étape ) only sparse overnight accommodations. The further path leads over the hills of the Pyrenees foothills. Meadows, small forests and the old villages on the hills determine the picture. The next bigger place is Pimbo , before it goes to Arzacq-Arraziguet . The road connection to Pimbo is via the D440.
Attractions
Saint-Jacques de Sensacq Church : The Romanesque building dates from the 11th and 12th centuries. Above the entrance is the bell tower , each with a bell in its two arches. Inside there is a Carolingian baptismal font .
