Rieutort-d'Aubrac is a hamlet in the commune of Marchastel in the Lozère department of the Occitanie region . It is on the GR 65 long-distance hiking trail , which largely follows the historical course of the French “ Via Podiensis ” route.

Geography and history

Rieutort-d'Aubrac is located on the Aubrac plateau about five kilometers east of Nasbinals . As almost everywhere in the Aubrac, the place has retained its originality. The houses made of gray basalt harmonize with the lovely but sometimes rough landscape. Often one encounters bakery houses, cattle troughs or village fountains made of the same material.

In Rieutort-d'Aubrac there are several pilgrim hostels ( French Gîte d'étape ). The historic path continues via the hamlet of Marchastel to Nasbinals . The long-distance hiking trail GR 65 takes the direct route to Nasbinals.
