Attractions
- The town's Romanesque church was founded by La Chaise-Dieu Abbey . At the head end of the church there is a cross from the 16th century with the image of St. James or a pilgrim who is on his way to Santiago de Compostela with a pilgrim's staff .
- Not far from Monistrol-d'Allier, in the direction of Saint-Privat-d'Allier, the town of Rochegude is located at an altitude of 967 meters. The Saint Jacques chapel is located here . It belonged to a castle, of which only a defensive tower survived the various wars and revolutions. The castle was first mentioned in 1326. It marks the border between Velay and Margeride or the Gévaudan . From here there is a view of the Allier gorge and the Margeride opposite.
- The hamlet of Escluzels is on the ascent to the Mageride towards Saugues. There is the La Madeleine chapel , which is mentioned as early as 1312 and is dedicated to Mary Magdalene. It is built in a grotto that probably served as a shelter for the Celts.
Way of St. James ( Via Podiensis )
The ascent to the Margeride plateau begins here . There are several pilgrim hostels and hotels as well as a campsite in the village. There is also a rail connection. The next larger town on the Camino de Santiago is Saugues . The D589 leads there as a direct road connection .
