Jax is a French municipality with 147 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Haute-Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (2015 Auvergne ). The municipality is part of the Brioude arrondissement and the Rives du Haut Allier municipal association founded in 2016 . The residents are called Jaxous .
geography
The municipality of Jax is located in the middle of the Massif Central , about 25 kilometers southeast of Brioude and 28 kilometers northwest of Le Puy-en-Velay . Half of the 11.93 km² municipal area consists of mountain forests and is located in the south of the Livradois-Forez Regional Nature Park . The municipality of Jax includes the village of Jax (1013 meters above sea level), the districts of Chastenuel (1041 m), Le Crouzet (1016 m), Le Mont (967 m) and Loubeyrat (977 m). The highest point in the municipality is 1500 m west of Chastenuel at 1030 m above sea level. Jax is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Josat in the north, Varennes-Saint-Honorat in the east, Sainte-Eugénie-de-Villeneuve in the south and Chavaniac-Lafayette in the west.

Economy and Infrastructure
Jax is dominated by agriculture. Eight farms are located in the community (dairy, sheep, goat and poultry farming). Tourism is developing increasingly (holiday homes, riding facilities in Chastenuel).
The community of Jax is located away from the major transport axes. Five kilometers southwest of Jax there is a connection to the Route nationale 102 from Brioude to Le Puy-en-Velay . The nearest train station is about twelve kilometers south of Jax (Lachaud-Curmilhac train station) in the municipality of Vissac-Auteyrac on the railway line from Saint-Georges-d'Aurac to Saint-Étienne .
