Cistrières is located about 39 kilometers northwest of Le Puy-en-Velay in the natural landscape of Emblavès (also spelled Emblavez ). The neighboring municipalities of Cistrières are Saint-Alyre-d'Arlanc in the north, La Chapelle-Geneste in the east and northeast, Connangles in the east and southeast, Berbezit in the south, Saint-Didier-sur-Doulon in the west and southwest and Laval-sur- Doulon in the northwest.
