The French community Fontannes ( Occitan identical) with 952 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) is located in the department of Haute-Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Brioude and the canton of Brioude (until 2015: canton of Brioude-Sud ). The inhabitants are called Fontannois .

geography

Fontannes is located about 45 kilometers northwest of Le Puy-en-Velay on the Allier , which borders the municipality to the west. Fontannes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Lamothe in the north, Chaniat in the northeast, Lavaudieu in the east and southeast, Vieille-Brioude in the south and Brioude in the west.

Route nationale 102 runs through the southwest of the municipality .
