It is located in the department of Haute-Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Auvergne ) and belongs to Arrondissement Brioude and the Canton Plateau du Haut-Velay granitique (2015 La Chaise-Dieu ).

Malvières is located about 38 kilometers north-northwest of Le Puy-en-Velay . Malvières is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mayres in the north, Dore-l'Église in the north and north-east, Saint-Victor-sur-Arlanc in the east, Bonneval in the south, La Chaise-Dieu in the west and south-west and La Chapelle-Geneste in the west and Northwest.
