Espalem ( Occitan identical) is a French municipality with 304 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Haute-Loire in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (before 2016 Auvergne ). It is located in the arrondissement of Brioude and in the canton of Sainte-Florine (until 2015 Blesle ).

Espalem is about 55 kilometers northwest of Le Puy-en-Velay . Espalem is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Léotoing in the north, Lorlanges in the north and northeast, Saint-Beauzire in the south and southeast, Grenier-Montgon in the south and southwest and Blesle in the west.

The A 75 autoroute runs through the municipality .
