The Autoroute A 75 , also known as La Méridienne , is a toll-free motorway in France . It runs in a north-south direction through the Central Massif from Clermont-Ferrand to Pézenas . Construction began in 1975. The extension to the A 9 at Béziers was completed in 2009 with the bypass at Béziers. It is identical to the E 11 over its entire length of 330 km .

It is one of the north-south connections in central France, should relieve the A 6 and A 7 and better connect the Massif Central to the motorway network. It runs with longer sections at a height of over 1,000 meters and reaches 1,129 meters at the highest point, the Col des Issartets . This makes it one of the highest motorways in Europe and the shortest connection between Paris and Béziers . It runs for large parts parallel to or on the route of the former N 9 .

Buildings

Because of the route through the mountainous massif central, three tunnels and eight large bridges were built. At the largest bridge between the junctions 45 and 46, the Millau Viaduct , a is bridge tolls charged. It is the highest and longest cable-stayed bridge in the world and leads through the valley of the Tarn .

The Aire de repos de Garabit rest area offers a panoramic view of the Truyère Valley and the Garabit Viaduct, as well as information about this unique railway bridge. It is between exit 30 and 31.
